On Friday, March 2nd at 12PM in UCROSS 028, join Paul Cabana, Executive Vice President, Head of History & Biography Digital at A+E Networks, and Mark Garner, Senior Vice President, Distribution and Digital Content Licensing at A+E Networks, as they discuss new avenues of growth through social/digital offerings at the History Channel. They’ll also be discussing how the transition from a cable world to a new over-the-top world has changed the TV industry.  

Free Groundhog Day Screening!

The Last Jedi Debate

On Thursday, January 25th in the Large Screening Room (UCROSS 028), Film & Video students Justin Allison, Shane Emery, Carson Gordan, and Jake Beckhardt will be debating one of the most hotly contested movies of 2017, Star Wars: The Last in Jedi. Justin and Shane will argue the merits of The Last Jedi, while Carson and Jake will argue its shortcomings. Moderators will be Emma Prang and Ethan Lewis. The event is pay what you want, with all proceeds going towards Shane’s senior project.

Quarterly Lab Update

Untitled-1Hello and welcome back! Hopefully your break was enjoyable. We had several updates in the labs while you were gone. Adobe CC was updated from 2017 to 2018, DaVinci Resolve was updated from 12.5 to 14, the C200 AMA plugin for Avid Media Composer was installed, and Cinema RAW Development 2.1 (for C200 playback) was installed. Lastly, Lattice was installed in Color Grading for LUT transformation and conversion. You can learn more about Lattice here. Science After Hours: Hollywood

If the answer is yes, then you’ll want to head over to the Franklin Institute on Tuesday, November 28th at 7:00PM for Science After Hours: Hollywood. Not only will the exhibit go over the engineering behind each step of the filmmaking process, but there will also be live music from the funk/R&B band Red 40 & The Last Groovement. The event is 21+ and popular, so try to get your tickets soon. Gretchen Carlson to Visit Drexel

47345-v1-600xGretchen Carson will be visiting Drexel University to talk about her life, career, and advocacy issues on Tuesday, November 14th at 7:00PM at the Mitchell Auditorium located in the Bossone Research Center at 3140 Market Street. 

Recently named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World and a 2017 recipient of the prestigious Matrix Award,  Gretchen Carlson is one of the nation’s most successful and recognized news anchors and a tireless advocate for equality and empowerment of women.

Quarterly Lab Update

Untitled-1Hello and welcome back! Hopefully your break was enjoyable. You may have noticed that the computers in the Cinema & Television labs look a little different. There were some major updates while you were gone. All Mac computers were updated from OS X Yosemite to OS X Sierra, Adobe CC was updated to the latest 2017 release, Avid Media Composer was updated from 8.8.1 to 8.9.0, Final Cut Pro was updated from 10.1.4 to 10.3.4, Pro Tools was updated from 11.3.2 to 12.8.0, Shot Put Pro was updated from 5 to 6, DaVinci Resolve was updated from 12.5.0 to 12.5.6, Microsoft Office was updated from 2013 to 2016, and the iZotope audio plugins in 026 and 035 have been updated from RX 4 to RX 6. Lastly, a new flatscreen has been mounted in the 018 meeting space. As always, if you experience any technical issues you can report the problem here.

Founded in 1836, Laurel Hill Cemetery was one of the first rural cemeteries established in the the United States. It was designated a national landmark in 1998.
