Does your video need closed captioning? Movie Captioner is an easy to use closed captioning application now installed in the Screening & Edit Suite (UCROSS 012). Closed captioning can make your videos accessible for the deaf, increase your search engine optimization (SE0), help you meet the broadcast guidelines of the FCC, and open your videos up to a much wider audience. For $19.99 per year, you’ll get a weekly digital publication of Variety, quarterly industry reports, and 25% off all Variety events as well as access to production charts, the domestic TV/film project database, and the Variety archives. Quarterly Lab Update
Welcome back! Hopefully your break was enjoyable. There have been a few updates in the labs that all students should be aware of. Avid Media Composer has been updated from version 8.3.1 to version 8.5.3. You can learn more about Media Composer 8.5.3 (including new features) by clicking here. The back two computers in the Advanced Post House are now running Adobe CC 2017 (Premiere, Media Encoder, After Effects, Prelude, Bridge). In order to accommodate this, the OS X has been updated from Mavericks to Yosemite and Pro Tools has been updated from version 11.3 to version 11.3.1. Please note that Adobe programs are not backwards compatible, and the rest of Westphal has not yet updated to Adobe CC 2017. Updating your personal computers to Adobe CC 2017 is not recommended at this time. Lastly the Screening & Edit Suite is now setup to do DVD and BluRay burns complete with Toast Titanium 14, a DVD/BluRay burner, and a DVD/BluRay player.
Roots Screening and Discussion
Westphal College’s Kal and Lucille Rudman Institute and the African American Museum in Philadelphia present Roots at 40. 2017 marks the 40th anniversary of the extraordinary television series Roots. This spring, A&E and History aired an equally remarkable remake of Alex Haley’s monumental story. Join the A&E/History creative team for a screening and conversation about why the story of Roots continues to resonate so powerfully today. Exact time and details to follow in the new year. Need a quiet space to develop your story concepts? Looking a meeting space for you and your production team? The Drexel Cinema & Television Department recently unveiled the new Writers Room (UCROSS 031) available to all students for reservations. The room is equipped with a pegboard to develop storylines, a couch, meeting table, and a Insignia 48″ flatscreen LED TV to display your work. Ask the FMVD Equipment Room about making a reservation.
